Notes
The TLC posts this disclaimer on its website: “While TLC performs routine reviews of submitted trip records, TLC generally publishes the data as submitted by bases. Therefore, we cannot guarantee or confirm the accuracy of the data.”
Data by license class—yellow taxis, green taxis, ridehailing apps, and livery cars—comes from the Monthly Data Report
Data for individual ridehailing apps—Uber, Lyft, Juno, and Via—originally came from the FHV Base Aggregate Report. However, that report was discontinued for some period around 2022, before starting again in 2024. The latest per-app data now comes from the trip-level records provided by the TLC, which are currently updated on a more predictable cadence than the Base Aggregate Report. See this post for more about the trip-level records
The TLC reports generally update monthly, often on a 2-3 month lag, but timeliness can vary
There are two additional TLC for-hire vehicle classes—black cars and luxury limousines—that are omitted from the graphs in order to reduce clutter
Code to process the aggregate reports and the trip-level data is available on GitHub
The graphs are built with Highcharts, and the underlying JSON API response is available here
